Vital Records - Marriage License

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU WHEN APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE:
1. Picture identification IS required & must be presented at the time you apply showing your correct address.  Only one party needs to be a resident of Ingham County.  Both parties do not have to be present to apply.
2. Birth dates, birth places (city and state), current address and social security numbers of each applying party.
3. Each parties parents’ full names, including mother’s maiden names and the state where each parent was born.

You must obtain your license in the County in which you reside. If one or both of you have an Ingham County address, you must apply at the Ingham County Clerk’s Office for your license. The fee is $20 and required at the time you apply. You can use the license to be married anywhere in Michigan.

OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANTS:
Applicants coming from out-of-state must apply for their license in the county in Michigan where the marriage is taking place. The fee in Ingham County is $30 payable at the time you apply

ON-LINE APPLICATION:
We are pleased to announce an on-line application for marriage.  This form may be submitted on-line, saving
you time in our office.  Follow the prompts below and complete the form.  Be sure to "submit" and "confirm"
the form when finished.  Then either the bride or the groom must appear in our office to
sign the affidavit,
take the oath, and pay for the license
.  This should be done at least three days prior to the wedding date.
 
The THREE day waiting period does NOT start until the oath has been given in our office.

WAITING PERIOD:

Michigan has a three (3) day waiting period. The following is a list of the pick up schedule:

You may request to waive the 3 day waiting period by filing out a waiver form from the clerk's office. If the 3 day waiver is approved an extra $25 waiver fee is added to the license fee.   

Individuals applying for a marriage license are NOT required to receive blood testing or HIV counseling. However, the County Clerk must provide written educational materials regarding prenatal care and the transmission and prevention of venereal diseases and HIV infection.

 

MAIL OR FAX A WRITTEN REQUEST TO THE INGHAM COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE TO OBTAIN A CERTIFIED COPY OF YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE - APPLICATION

Information requested to complete request:  grooms name, brides maiden name, date of marriage, mailing address, and phone number.

Our mailing address is: PO Box 179, Mason MI 48854. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your marriage record. All mail requests are filled and mailed back out within five to seven business days from the date received in the Clerk's office.
